BUSINESS AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP: A TOOL FOR ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT, PURPOSEFUL LIVING, AND HOW IT IS SHAPING THE END-TIME AGENDA.

By Zilpha Khasiro - Joycil Foods (KE) Ltd

In a blog I recently came across, someone wrote, If there are no job opportunities, create one. That simple statement reflects a global reality: the traditional job market is no longer guaranteed to absorb the growing number of graduates entering it each year. Many young people, despite their education, passion, and potential, are met with closed doors. Left without guidance or opportunity, some fall into despair, depression, or even destructive alternative cybercrime, fraud, and other illegal activities just to survive. Its a sobering truth in a world where technology has made both opportunity and crime more accessible.

This modern-day desperation closely mirrors the story of the widow in 2 Kings 4:1 to 7. Her husband had died, creditors were coming to take her two sons as slaves, and all she had left was a small jar of oil. Her situation grieving, in debt, about to lose her children speaks volumes to the helplessness many feel today when their dreams collapse, and their backs are against the wall. But in her lowest moment, a divine instruction sparked a miracle: she was told to borrow vessels, pour her oil, and sell it. That single act of faith and obedience turned her last resort into a sustainable enterprise.

Whether you view this story as a spiritual truth or a metaphor for resilience, the message remains powerful: you already have something in your hands that can multiply. It may be a skill, a passion, an idea, a product, whatever it is, it carries the potential to open doors, pay debts, and change lives.

This is echoed in the story of Moses in Exodus 4, where God asks him, What is that in your hand? referring to his shepherds rod, which later becomes the very instrument for leading a nation. That simple rod reminds us: what you have may look ordinary, but under the right vision and with action, it can lead to extraordinary outcomes. In a rapidly evolving world, where traditional employment systems are overwhelmed and global uncertainties increase, a clarion call is sounding Create opportunities, dont just seek them. This echoes Kingdom wisdom for the present age, where business and entrepreneurship are not only tools for personal breakthrough but instruments for divine alignment. The end-time move of God is not limited to pulpits it is invading the marketplace.

Understanding Business Through a Kingdom Lens

Business is the structured provision of goods or services in exchange for profit, while entrepreneurship is the process of identifying a need, taking risks, and creating solutions through creative innovation. From a broader perspective, especially for those of faith, business is not merely transactional, it is transformational. Matthew 13:44 to 46 speaks of the Kingdom of Heaven as a treasure and a pearl of great value, both of which required sacrifice and intentional pursuit. These scriptures highlight not only the value of purpose but the importance of being visionary and willing to invest everything for a worthwhile return.

Profitability is not just a worldly concept; it aligns with divine intention. We were created not just to exist, but to thrive. Productivity, fruitfulness, and multiplication are all part of Gods design for humanity. Unfortunately, religious mindsets have often equated holiness with hardship, keeping many in cycles of lack and poverty. However, when rightly understood, business becomes a vehicle through which we fulfill purpose, impact lives, and leave a legacy.

Lessons from Scripture and History

Throughout history and scripture, we find numerous examples of individuals and tribes that embodied entrepreneurial spirit. The tribe of Zebulun was blessed for its maritime trade and commerce: Zebulun shall dwell at the haven of the sea; he shall be a haven for ships (Genesis 49:13). They were known for leveraging geographical advantage into sustainable enterprise. Joseph, once a slave, became Egypts top economic strategist. The Proverbs 31 woman is another outstanding example, she buys fields, plants, vineyards, and manages her household with entrepreneurial skills (Proverbs 31:16). These examples demonstrate that economic empowerment, legacy-building, and stewardship are deeply interwoven into biblical history and principles.

Marketplace as a Mission Field: The End-Time Agenda

The Bible is clear that the gospel of the Kingdom will be preached in all nations before the end comes (Matthew 24:14). How? Not only through churches, but through education, media, health, technology and business.

Kingdom entrepreneurs are not just businesspeople; they are apostles in boardrooms, prophets in supply chains, and evangelists in e-commerce. The marketplace is a strategic battlefield in the end-time harvest.

  • The Proverbs 31 woman didnt just pray; she traded.

  • Joseph didnt only interpret dreams; he managed Egypts economy during famine.

  • Daniel didnt just see visons; he governed Babylon and influenced kings.

These are end-time prototypes.

Key Principles for a Successful Entrepreneur

1. Mindset Shift

A successful venture begins with the right mindset. In the Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14 to 30), those who multiplied what was given to them were rewarded. The one who buried his talent acted out of fear and scarcity. In entrepreneurship, a scarcity mentality kills innovation before it begins. Whether spiritual or not, this principle stands: success begins with belief. For those of faith, understanding that we are co-creators with God made in His image and likeness should empower us to act boldly, create, and multiply.

2. Integrity

Every thriving business stands on the foundation of integrity. Opportunities may come that tempt one to cut corners, but long-term sustainability demands ethics. Corruption and dishonesty, especially in developing nations, have stalled the growth of homegrown enterprises. Proverbs 17:23 says, A bribe blinds the discerning and perverts the words of the righteous. True success should be measured not just by wealth, but by the legacy of character and impact one leaves behind.

3. Mentorship and Counsel

Success leaves clues. Proverbs 11:14 reminds us that in the multitude of counselors there is safety. Whether youre starting out or scaling up, walking with mentors whove traveled the path before you can help you avoid costly mistakes and accelerate growth. Leadership, business acumen, and vision are often sharpened through learning from others just as Joshua learned from Moses.

4. Understanding Times and Seasons

One of the most overlooked keys in entrepreneurship is the wisdom to discern the right time. The sons of Issachar were celebrated for understanding times and knowing what to do (1 Chronicles 12:32). Innovation thrives when it is timely. Trends change, customer needs evolve, and economies shift. A wise entrepreneur remains adaptable, discerning when to pivot or persist. Like Isaac, who sowed during famine and reaped a hundredfold, sometimes success lies in doing what others hesitate to do when led by insight.

5. Consistency

Ideas can ignite, but consistency sustains and builds legacies. The reason God is trusted is because of His consistent nature. Businesses that stand the test of time are those built on persistent effort and vision. When God called Jacob, He saw Israel nation. One mans faithfulness birthed generational blessing. If your business dies with you, its purpose was not fully realized. Build for generations, not just today.

6. Leveraging Technology

Technology has revolutionized entrepreneurship. Today, borders are no longer barriers digital platforms that allow anyone to sell, connect, and scale globally. With e-commerce, digital marketing, and automation, even a small idea can go viral. Scripture affirms this potential in Daniel 12:4, Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase. The rise in digital knowledge is a tool, and those who embrace it position themselves for unprecedented growth.

The call: A Higher Purpose

For the Kingdom-minded entrepreneur, business is more than profit it is purpose. While not all are called to the fivefold ministry, every sector from media to health, education to economics needs Kingdom ambassadors. Isaiah 60:1 declares, Arise, shine; for your light has come! This is a charge to those who carry solutions, ideas, and innovations meant to bless nations. Isaiah 60:1 to 3 is not just poetics prophetic. Darkness will cover the earth, but Kingdom light will arise in unlikely places, including the marketplace. Business becomes a prophetic response to global problems. You may not have a pulpit, but your business is your platform.
The widow of Zarephath thought she had only one last meal left. But in obedience and faith, that very last became her gateway to abundance (1 Kings 17:8 to 16). Sometimes, what looks like sacrifice is really the seed of sustainability. And when we cast our bread upon the waters, as Ecclesiastes 11:1 says, we will find it again after many days.

Whether you identify with spiritual beliefs or not, the principle is the same: inside every individual is the power to transform circumstances through vision, courage, and action. But for those who know they are led by a higher calling, entrepreneurship is more than an option it is a divine assignment. Daniel 11:32 but the people that do know their God shall be strong and do exploits. These exploits need to be seen even in the marketplace.

Conclusion: Divine Assignment Over Mere Ambition

To the Kingdom-minded, business is not just business, it is prophecy in motion.
